This is why there are currently a wide variety of drugs that you can take, available on the market. Cafergot has made a name for itself thanks to its ability to prevent and treat certain types of headaches, but also other forms of pain.

To put things better into perspective, Cafergot represents a combination of two vasoconstrictors. Therefore, it works by constricting the blood vessels present in the lining of the brain, thus decreasing the pain that results from migraine headaches. Do keep in mind the fact that this drug also has other uses, rather than simply treating headaches.

What should patients know prior to taking Cafergot?

To help avoid any issues, and do keep your health intact, it is important not to take the medicine in case you are allergic to any of the ingredients present in it, are pregnant, are in labour, have high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, kidney or liver problems, severe infections, blood vessel problems and more. Smoking can also decrease the efficiency of Cafergot. Do make sure to let your doctor or pharmacist know if you suffer from any of the conditions outlined above, as other medicines may be suited for you in this case.

How should Cafergot be taken?

Cafergot can be taken either with or without food, as long as it is taken with a full glass of water. Usually, Cafergot is taken at the first sign of a headache, to help prevent further development of the pain. In case no effects are felt, an additional dose may be needed 30 minutes after the first one. Do make sure that you are not taking too much of the pill as this can cause other issues later on. Together with this, make sure not to take more than 6 tablets for a singer headache or more than 10 tablets during a week for the same headache without consulting your doctor, as Cafergot is not meant for long-term use.
