At this moment in time, depression represents a condition that has affected hundreds of thousands of people, many of which have managed to heal however. To do so, a positive mental state is required, alongside with the administration of various medicines. One such example is Wellbutrin, which is an antidepressant drug that is most often used to treat seasonal affective disorder and major depressive disorder. Do keep in mind the fact that the medicine may be used for some other purposes, as directed by your doctor.

What should patients know prior to taking Wellbutrin?

To kick things off, it is important to acknowledge the fact that antidepressants have been known to increase the risk of suicidal thoughts, especially for young adults, teenagers and children. However, depression itself increases the risk of such actions, which is why the patient’s options should be weighed correctly. Based on this, it is important to talk things over with your doctor to fully understand the advantages and disadvantages of this antidepressant.

Additionally, patients should also stay away from the drug in case they have a history of seizures, eating disorders, suddenly stopped using alcohol, sedatives or seizure medication. Together with this, it is also important to stay away from Wellbutrin in case you have taken a MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days, as a dangerous drug interaction can occur in this case, thus provoking dangerous health risks. The pill can also cause seizures, especially to people who suffer from certain medical conditions, which is why you should let your doctor know if you have narrow-angle glaucoma, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, bipolar disorder, kidney or liver disease and other conditions.

How is the drug usually taken?

Wellbutrin should be administered exactly as it has been prescribed by your doctor. With this in mind, do not take the medicine in larger or smaller amounts, for longer or for shorter period of times. Dosage depends on your weight, age and gender, alongside with the severity of your condition.

In case you miss a dose, simply take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the one that you have missed. It’s important to avoid overdoses, but if this happens, seek emergency medical help. Overdose symptoms include hallucinations, muscle stiffness, fainting, uneven heartbeat, shallow breathing and more.

What are the side effects associated with Wellbutrin?

Some of the most common ones include dry mouth, stomach pain, nausea, vision changes, sore throat, changes in appetite, mild itching and more. In case you experience more severe side effects, let your doctor know as soon as possible.

Currently, the drug can be purchased with a doctor’s prescription from authorized local and online pharmacies.
