Nowadays, Tramadol is gaining huge interest as one of the alternative medicine for opioid withdrawal symptoms. There are many people who are on the lookout of getting out of heroin and its by-product addiction. Interestingly, various doctors and physicians are the ones whose interest is expanding with this regard.

Tramadol – A Low And Effective Pain Killer Compared To Methadone

Can Tramadol get you high? Yes! However, when comparing with other medications, you can say that Tramadol has less abuse potential. Do you know that Tramadol is one of the non-scheduled pain killers (analgesic medication)? So it means the DEA has not classified this medicine as a narcotic. It is simply considered as a drug that has less potential for abuse. However, products containing tramadol hydrochloride like Ultram and Ultracet will be highly addictive.

Superiority Of Tramadol Over Methadone In Withdrawal Symptoms

There are various medicines used for treating opioid and opiate withdrawal symptoms over the past few years. Besides the new means of withdrawal like rapid opiate detox, such medications are rigorously tested and found to be safe.

Each of the tested drugs has limitations as well as clinical strength. And in the clinical trials, it was discovered that Tramadol was much better (to a slight extent) in handling the symptoms related to opioid withdrawal syndrome compared to what methadone provides. Furthermore, researchers and doctors who tested Tramadol and Methadone found out that Tramadol is more efficient in handling the symptoms related opioid withdrawals like anxiety, irritability, and depression.

Less Side Effects Of Tramadol Compared To Methadone

Besides providing lower dependency potential, Tramadol is quite efficient in handling the uncomfortable symptoms related to withdrawal. Also, it has fewer side effects compared to Methadone. Individuals consuming Tramadol experience less respiratory toxicity and depression, drowsiness, and less sweating.

Withdrawal Studies

A study conducted in 2012 showed the comparison between Methadone and Tramadol for treating opiate withdrawal. For this test, patients were divided into two groups. One group was given 60 mg of Methadone each day while other group had Tramadol. Overall there was no great amount of difference between the both these medications regarding the OOWS (Objective Opioid Withdrawal Scale) as they had the same score.

But while comparing the side effects, Tramadol had less side effect compared to Methadone except perspiration.

Wrap Up

Comparing to other medications and especially Methadone, Tramadol is slightly better. The side effects are less, and there is a lower chance of getting highly addictive to this medicine.
