Valium has had many different uses through the years. It has been used to treat anxiety and seizures. But it has also been effective in treating withdrawal from alcohol. It is has also been very useful to relieve muscle spasms and as a sedative before some types of medical procedures. It works on the central nervous system to help the body increase production of a natural chemical. This ends up having a calming effect on the body. Although it is not listed in the approved medicinal uses by the medical field, it has been used to relieve patients from night terrors.

The dosage prescribed will depend on the characteristics of the medical condition and how the patient responds to therapy procedures. It is very important to take the precise dosage and use professional tools to measure such dosages otherwise the patient may not receive the correct dosage.

There are a few side effects associated with Valium. Some have reported conditions such as blurred vision, headaches, fatigue, constipation, dizziness and drowsiness. These side effects should be discussed with a pharmacist or physician but are not usually serious. Most people who take this medication do not usually have real serious side effects from it. But there are a few very rare side effects that can be very serious. If you have any mood changes, slurred speech, trouble walking, change in sex drive, clumsiness, insomnia, tremors or trouble urinating you should contact your physician immediately.

There is a very rare chance that more serious side effect can occur. Stomach pain, vomiting, persistent nausea, dark urine, persistent sore throat or fever, or yellowing of the eyes or skin are all signs of very serious adverse side effects. Contact should be made with the physician immediately if any of these occur while you are taking Valium.
