Norco is a compound made of the combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is semisynthetic narcotic pain reliever. Acetaminophen is known to be a comparatively less potent analgesic that increases the effects of hydrocodone. Norco is generally used to treat mild to intense pains and aches.

Hydrocodone has numerous functions which turn up to be quite similar to the functions performed by codeine. The major functions involve the functions central nervous system and smooth muscle. The exact working principle of hydrocodone and the similar opiates appear to us still as unclear and unknown but it is estimated to be related to the existence of narcotic receptors in the central nervous system. Apart from its usages as an analgesic, Norco may also produce a little drowsiness, fatigue, dimness, alteration in moods and temperaments, depression or loss of slight memory and reactivity. The analgesic function of acetaminophen also includes peripheral influences, but the actual working principle of it remains still undetermined. Antipyretic activity is set on through hypothalamic heat regulating centers. Acetaminophen retards prostaglandin synthetase. Therapeutic doses of acetaminophen have considerable effect on the cardiovascular or respiratory organs;

Norco usage is strictly prohibited for the patients who have previously shown any kind of hypersensitivity to hydrocodone or acetaminophen or other forms of narcotics. Acetaminophen accelerates the cases of acute liver damaging and failure, often leads to liver in transplantation and even death of a patient. The chances of liver cirrhosis increases manifold for an individual having hidden liver, stomach or pancreas diseases or for a person consuming alcohol at larger quantities while being under a medication involving acetaminophen. The recommended usage of acetaminophen is not more 4000 milligrams if a person is tolerant to it. Toxic doses of the drug may lead to circulatory disorders or rapid, shallow breathing. In case of other side effects, one must consult the physician immediately without a delay.
